Social media is now the main way of advertising and marketing things such as films, trailers and clips of films
due to such a wide vast audience that comes with it. The majority of people have an account of some sort of
social media site whether that be Facebook, Twitter or even just Whats app. Viral advertisement is something
all of these social media sites give us the opportunity to do which people constantly liking and sharing posts
and videos.
One of the largest advantages of having social media for advertising is the number of people you can reach for
free. Advertising is an expensive business but if you can rely on people posting and re tweeting links to your
product, which can be done of both Facebook and Twitter then it's extremely an effective outcome. You can
also use banner/viral advertising on these sites as well, which will guarantee that it will be seen by millions! This
is basically advertising in an advertisement itself.
Twitter allows you to produce tweets up to 140 characters, where the post can then be shared and re-tweeted or liked, posts
can easily be made viral by continuous re-tweets making it get around. Its also easy to create accounts on Twitter as they can
have their logos displayed and people interested can get involved and follow. Twitter would be a good way of advertising the
production of a film or film opening as you are able to make tweets in order and it has the dates next to it of when it was
posted, there is also a small area to write a description of what they page is for and there to show. It would allow people to
follow the making of it and share the posts to give more people not following us the opportunity to see the posts.
Instagram is another social media site that millions of people have on their devices. It is all picture based so all posts would
be images, with an area underneath in which can be used for a title/caption to be added to it and then underneath that
there can be comments made for followers to give their opinions and thoughts. Locations can be added, along with tags on
the image posted, helpful for followers to view and see.
Another social media site is Facebook where most people spend their day on meaning guaranteed viewers to see this. On
Facebook films/videos can be directly linked from YouTube etc onto Facebook so this would allow videos to be directly
accessible from Facebook. A page could also be made on here which people can follow and review. Also comment of posts
that have been uploaded.
A successful thriller who advertised through social media was "The Woman In Black". They had mast posts
online about when they're releasing the film etc. They also made massive posters to be displayed on billboards.
There was a lot of marketing taking place online and on social media especially on twitter, Facebook and
Instagram. They also advertised on YouTube and Newspapers. They used as much advertising as they could.
